The Bay Fish and Chips Celebrates Managers’ 20th Year of Service

Rounding off one of The Bay’s most successful years to date, the trip – arranged by Calum in recognition of Stuart’s service since 1998 – comes just a few months after The Bay was voted as the best fish and chips in the world, in the Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Eatlist 2018.

Rated as the highest ranking British entry, The Bay sits in the top 50 of 500 nominated world-wide eating experiences.

Lonely Planet’s recognition is the most recent addition to The Bay’s lengthy list of accolades achieved over the years.

This year, Calum Richardson won Food and Drink Pioneer 2018 at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards – thought of by some as the Oscars of the industry.

Committing to using the very best local produce that doesn’t cost the earth, The Bay is a bastion of sustainability, and leads by example.

Speaking of Stuart’s 20 years of service, Calum said:


“It’s a fantastic feeling to be able to thank Stuart for 20 years of hard work.

“He’s been with me since the beginning and we’re both passionate about serving the best, most sustainably sourced food we can and building relationships with our customers.

“At The Bay, we reward loyalty, hard work and a positive, entrepreneurial attitude, and the way we look after our staff speaks for itself – we have a very low turnover of staff, and our assistant manager, Paul, has been with us for 7 years.

“At The Bay we’re friends as well as colleagues, and we’ve been through a huge amount – without such a great team, we wouldn’t be where we are now and I’m looking forward to seeing where we go next.”

Stuart said of his career milestone:

“Forging a career can be hard work in any industry, but I’m so glad I chose to develop mine in the hospitality sector. It’s been a rewarding 20 years!

“The Bay is no ordinary fish and chip shop – it’s a place that’s doing things very differently and I’m proud to say I work at the greenest, most eco-friendly chippy in the UK.

“There’s something new in every day to keep you on your toes, and spending time getting to know the ins and outs of running a business has been an invaluable experience for me."
