AcceptAccording to data produced by the NPD Group, the UK home-delivery market experienced growth of 10% in 2016 alone, whilst doubling its total size since 2008. Last year, the home-delivery market amassed £3.6bn in total. Contrastingly, out of home eating has increased by 1%, reflecting a growing shift away from dining out towards at-home eating.
Leading this change are third-party delivery platforms such as Deliveroo (UK), Just Eat (UK) and UberEats (USA), who have witnessed mammoth growth over the past decade and expansion of their operations worldwide. Since their creation, ‘where’, ‘when’ and ‘what’ consumers order has evolved significantly from ‘weekend treat’ curries and kebabs, to gourmet lunches served by ‘high-end’ restaurants.
